The port is Kuşadası. The reason is Ephesus.
Which tour actually goes inside the Terrace Houses. Which shore excursion gets you back before the ship sails. What a Pamukkale day really costs in hours. Every tour sold on this coast, reviewed and ranked.
Back at the Kuşadası gangway before she sails.
Ephesus is about twenty kilometres from the pier — half an hour each way on a clear road, longer when four ships are in and every coach leaves at once. The tours below start at the cruise terminal rather than a hotel lobby, publish the time they will have you back, and carry the consequence if they are wrong.

Marble Street, the Great Theatre and the facade of the Library of Celsus are on every itinerary here. What separates one tour from the next is what else the ticket covers: the Terrace Houses under their modern roof, the House of the Virgin Mary on the hill above, the single standing column of the Temple of Artemis.

Marble Street and the Library in half a day
Down the main avenue from the Magnesian Gate to the Library, the Great Theatre at the bottom of the hill, then back on the coach. The tour most people take, and the one shaped to fit a ship’s sailing time.

The Terrace Houses, under their roof
Six Roman townhouses halfway down Curetes Street, their mosaic floors and painted walls still in place under a modern shelter. They need their own ticket, which is the honest reason so many tours stop at the door.

The House of the Virgin Mary
A small stone house on the wooded slope of Bülbül Dağı, venerated as the place Mary spent her last years and visited by three popes. Almost every tour pairs it with the ruins; the difference is whether you get there before the coaches.
House of the Virgin Mary Tours →The days people come to Kuşadası for.
One ancient city everything else is measured against, a shrine on the hill above it, a wonder of the ancient world down to its last column, a village that makes fruit wine, white terraces three hours inland — and a hammam for afterwards.
What Kuşadası actually books.
Every review →Ranked by how many travellers have taken each one and said so afterwards — the order nobody can buy.

Selçuk, Priene, Miletus, Didyma: the ruins with no queue.
The Basilica of St John stands on the hill over Selçuk with the İsa Bey Mosque at its foot. A long day south picks up Priene on its terrace, the enormous theatre at Miletus, and the oracle temple at Didyma with its columns still standing. Same coast, a fraction of the crowd.
What a day out of Kuşadası costs.
Every reviewed tour on the site, sorted by its starting price. Site entrance and the separate Terrace Houses ticket are what move most of these numbers.
Hammam sessions, quad runs, a day on a boat, and the group Ephesus tours that leave the entrance ticket to you.
The standard shape of a day here: a guided Ephesus half-day with entry included, or the long Pamukkale run with lunch.
What the tour titles do not tell you about Ephesus.
Three details that decide whether a tour here is worth its price, and not one of them appears in the name of the tour.

The Terrace Houses
Halfway down Curetes Street a modern roof covers six Roman townhouses whose mosaic floors and painted walls are still where the last residents left them. Entry is a separate ticket from the main site, which is the plain reason a great many tours walk past the door. If you have seen the Library and want the other half of the story, this is where it is.

The House of the Virgin Mary
On the wooded slope of Bülbül Dağı above the ruins stands a small stone house venerated as the place Mary spent her last years. It was identified in the nineteenth century from the visions of a German nun, and three popes have since celebrated Mass there. Christian and Muslim visitors come alike, and the queue is shortest before ten in the morning.

The Temple of Artemis
It was far larger than the Parthenon and the ancient world counted it among its seven wonders. What stands today, in a field between Selçuk and the ruins, is one re-erected column with a stork’s nest on top. Ten minutes and a photograph is all most tours give it, which is about right — provided somebody tells you what you are looking at.

The Kuşadası bookings that will not wait.
Most of this coast can be arranged the evening before from your hotel. These four cannot: they run on sailing times, long road days and a ticket you cannot buy at the gate on the morning.
- 013-Hour Private Ephesus, Terrace Houses, Cruiser OnlyThe Terrace Houses are a separate ticket inside the ruins and only a handful of tours include one. Pick that tour before you arrive, not at the turnstile.
- 02Pamukkale Small Group Tour from Kusadasi Port/HotelsRoughly three hours on the road in each direction. It only works as a full day, and the early departures are the ones that reach the terraces before they fill.
- 03For Cruisers: Skip The Lines Private Ephesus Tour & On Time ReturnShip days are fixed and shared with everyone else on board. The tours that promise a timed return are spoken for long before the ship ties up.
- 04Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB) Transfer to OR from Kusadasiİzmir Adnan Menderes is about ninety minutes north and there is no rail link into town, so the transfer is the whole journey — arranged in advance or not at all.
The Dilek pines, the swimming stops, the long lunch.
The national park down the coast keeps its pine forest, its coves and the cave at its entrance; the boats leave the marina in the morning and anchor three or four times before dinner; and the hammam is what most people book for the last afternoon ashore.
